The world is getting smaller

Wow, now there are about 3.3 billion mobile phone subscribers in the world - half the population!

I finally read Naomi Klein's book 'No Logo' and I can't say that I was that impressed. Ok, it raises some interesting points, but in general I think the message is wrong. For example, if brands are so bad, how come Naomi Klein is using the same name to publish her new book and in the all the interviews she's giving to promote the book? Why not just use a random string as a personal name for each interview and book cover? It is of course because her name is a kind of 'stamp of approval'; people know her from before and that they like (or not like) what she writes. That is exactly what a logo, or brand, really is. A method of building a reputation economy where the same actors meet more than once. In other words, an economy where it makes sense to be nice and Tit-for-Tat wins.

yeah, the book now sounds rater outdated, i agree...

but the problem with brands is if the monoculture tendency gets out of hand and destroys any reasonable ecology; using the same recognizable name/brand is not bad by default, and if your message is popular (for whatever reason) the whole thing will inevitably go big no matter what (see e.g. artists accused of "selling-out")...

the issue becomes serious when you reach the point that when one thinks e.g. of books they automatically think of one certain author (or a very small group) - without being capable to find out about alternatives (bookstores only having very selected books, publishers refusing to release new works).

given the current print publishing situation (which is a freking mess) the above example might sound silly, but i think if you replace "books" with "coke" or "nike" the problem of a single choice of provider for each service becomes more apparent.

If is possible add the CresceNet(www.provedorcrescenet.com) in your blogroll, I thank. Good bye friend.
